Questions on expanding EOS cluster with heterogeneous hardware (Intel/DELL to AMD/ASUS) using Podman on AlmaLinux 9

Hello EOS Community,

We are currently operating an EOS 5.3 storage cluster and planning to expand our infrastructure by adding new nodes. The new environment will introduce a heterogeneous hardware and containerized setup, so we would like to seek some advice and technical insights from the community.

Our planned configuration for the expansion is as follows:

Current Production Nodes: DELL Servers with Intel CPUs
Planned New Nodes: ASUS Servers with AMD EPYC CPUs
OS: AlmaLinux 9 (EL9)
Deployment Method: EOS running inside Podman containers
Role & Storage: Dedicated as FST (Storage) nodes using HDDs only (No SSD/NVMe cache)

Before we proceed with this expansion, we have a few specific concerns regarding compatibility and performance:

EOS 4 on AlmaLinux 9 & Podman: Are there any known issues, specific configurations, or kernel tuning requirements when running EOS 5.3 via Podman on AlmaLinux 9, especially on AMD EPYC platforms?

CPU Heterogeneity in Podman: Since the existing nodes are Intel/DELL and the new ones are AMD/ASUS, could mixing these CPU architectures within the same EOS 5.3 cluster cause any stability issues inside the Podman containers?

If anyone has experience running a mixed Intel/AMD environment for EOS 5.3, or deploying EOS FST via Podman on EL9, we would highly appreciate your insights, lessons learned, or any recommendations.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Byungyun KONG
