New mgm not starting, qclient errors

I’m spinning up a fresh instance and ran into the following when starting the mgm:

qclient: HmacAuthHandshake failed with error ERR no password is set

I’m surmising this is an issue w/ mgm-> qdb connectivity but my config looks pretty clean as far as auth for qdb goes:

mgmofs.nslib /usr/lib64/libEosNsQuarkdb.so
mgmofs.cfgtype quarkdb
mgmofs.qdbcluster aliceafmgm0.lbl.gov:7777
mgmofs.qdbpassword_file /etc/eos.keytab

Nevermind, I was trying to do single qdb master. expanding to 3 qdb instances on the same node resolved the issue.
