Citrine and Diopside on EL8/EL9: support matrix and EOL estimation?

Hi all,

I am preparing a replacement of old EOS servers on my site. New servers will run from 2022 Q1 (or Q2) to 2027 Q1 in my current plan. Due to the schedule, it seems natural to choose from EL8 (all but CentOS), EL9 or CentOS Stream 9 (CS9). (Sure, Ubuntu LTS would also be fine, though.)

So, let me ask some questions:

  1. Will Citrine (EOS 4.x) be supported until 2027?
  2. Will Citrine be built for EL9 and CS9? If so, when will it be?
  3. When will non-testing Diopside (EOS 5.x) release be available?
  4. Will Diopside on EL8 be supported until 2027?
  5. Will Diopside be built for EL9 and CS9? If so, when will it be?

Hi Masanori,

  1. No, EOS 4 is now in maintenance mode and all our production services at CERN plan to move to EOS 5.x in Q1 2022.
  2. No, EOS 4 will not be supported for CS9. We currently support CentOS7 and CS8 for EOS 4.
  3. The next EOS 5 release (5.0.8) will be marked as stable beginning of January.
  4. EOS 5 will be supported for the foreseeable future on CS8.
  5. Yes, EOS 5 will be built on CS9 in the beginning of next year.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers,
Elvin

Thank you for your on-target response, @esindril!

OK, I will prepare an EOS 5 on CS9 setup next year.

Have a nice holiday and a happy new year!
