Advisory to all EOS sites: Container ID limitation at 268M

Dear all,

All administrators running an EOS instance should please note there is currently a limitation on Container IDs at 2^28 = 268.435.456, and file IDs at 2^35 = 34.359.738.368.

We will soon have in place the option of upgrading to a new inode encoding scheme which increases the limits to 2^63 = 9.223.372.036.854.775.808 for both file IDs and container IDs.

You can check the current IDs of your instance through eos ns, see fields current file id and current container id. If you are close to the limit, please contact us ASAP.

This affects both old and new namespaces. We’ll let you know soon how to upgrade to the new inode scheme.

Cheers,
Georgios
